Stability in Christ

Many believers struggle in their walk with Christ. When things go wrong, many emotions can arise, questions and doubts; peace evaporates.

This is not how our lives should be. God intends us to unshakeable as Jesus said in the parable of the wise and foolish builders. So how do we stand when everything seems to be going wrong? Perhaps this example will help.

Imagine that you are making a stool. You’ve never made or seen one before. However, it soon becomes obvious that one, or even two legs is not enough. You need three legs.

How does this apply to the believer’s life? Well, Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth and many believers stop there. Often, they skip to “no man comes to the Father but through me.”

This is fine, but like our stool, not enough. Jesus also said that He is the Life. I’ve heard a great deal of preaching on the Way and the Truth. Not nearly so much on Jesus the Life.

Is it enough to have your sins forgiven? It is surely a great blessing. But how much more blessed it is to live in victory, where sin is the exception rather than the norm.

“Victory in Jesus” so the old hymn says. Yet defeat is much more common. The answer lies in knowing that Jesus is now your life. God has only one answer to every human problem. And that s Jesus. Do you lack faith? Rely on the faith of the Son of God. Lack love? The love of Jesus is far greater than human love. God includes everything we need in Jesus – love, joy, peace, patience, self control and whatever else you need.

You thought that was the fruit of the Spirit. And you are correct. However, the Holy Spirit is in fact Jesus in a form that we can receive. The material Jesus does not physically dwell in us. But it is indeed Jesus in the Person of His Holy Spirit. I don’t understand that either. But it is fact.

The Christian life is not automatic. God does nothing without our consent. If you want the victorious life, first you must come to see that your self life is useless to God. He thinks so little of it that He includes it in the death of Jesus. “I am crucified with Christ, I no longer live……” Then God raises us up. “Christ lives in me.” I live now by the faith of the Son of God….

In a way, we face the same choice as Adam in Eden. We can choose to live by our own thoughts, feelings and opinions. Or we can choose to get out of the way and ask Jesus to live in place of who we were in Adam.

We see where Adam’s choice got us as a race. If we will daily ask Jesus to live out His life in us, through us and in place of us, we will know peace and joy that is no longer dependent on circumstances, man’s approval or rejection, Satan’s intimidation or our own opinions.

Does it work in practice? Definitely. I’ve faced many trials after discovering this great truth. I have had the peace that passes understanding even during a painful and life-threatening illness. One doctor told me, “You are not taking this seriously!” I had peace in the midst of that storm life. That can be your experience also.

In view of the controversy around Israel’s defensive war with Gaza, I thought this brief history would be helpful:

A crash course on history of PALESTINIAN STATE:
1. Before Israel, there was a British mandate, not a Palestinian state
2. Before the British Mandate, there was the Ottoman Empire, not a Palestinian state.
3. Before the Ottoman Empire, there was the Islamic state of the Mamluks of Egypt, not a Palestinian state.
4. Before the Islamic state of the Mamluks of Egypt, there was the Ayubid Arab-Kurdish Empire, not a Palestinian state.
5. Before the Ayubid Empire, there was the Frankish and Christian Kingdom of Jerusalem, not a Palestinian state.
6. Before the Kingdom of Jerusalem, there was the Umayyad and Fatimid empires, not a Palestinian state.
7. Before the Umayyad and Fatimid empires, there was the Byzantine empire, not a Palestinian state.
8. Before the Byzantine Empire, there were the Sassanids, not a Palestinian state.
9. Before the Sassanid Empire, there was the Byzantine Empire, not a Palestinian state.
10. Before the Byzantine Empire, there was the Roman Empire, not a Palestinian state.
11. Before the Roman Empire, there was the Hasmonean state, not a Palestinian state.
12. Before the Hasmonean state, there was the Seleucid, not a Palestinian state.
13. Before the Seleucid empire, there was the empire of Alexander the Great, not a Palestinian state.
14. Before the empire of Alexander the Great, there was the Persian empire, not a Palestinian state.
15. Before the Persian Empire, there was the Babylonian Empire, not a Palestinian state.
16. Before the Babylonian Empire, there were the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, not a Palestinian state.
17. Before the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, there was the Kingdom of Israel, not a Palestinian state.
18. Before the kingdom of Israel, there was the theocracy of the twelve tribes of Israel, not a Palestinian state.
19. Before the theocracy of the twelve tribes of Israel, there was an agglomeration of independent Canaanite city-kingdoms, not a Palestinian state.
20. Actually, in this piece of land there has been everything,

EXCEPT A “Palestinian” “state”

“Seeing we have this ministry … we do not faint…” ….2 Corinthians 4:1

Which do we consider is God’s highest purpose, the ministry of gifts or the ministry of life? For the temporary edification of the churches, some may minister by miraculous gifts, but in this passage Paul points forward to that which is the most to be prized. It’s not the gifts but the life. Jesus is the life as He is the way and the truth. If we are Christian then we have the life of Christ, a life which comes into us through death. So it is not the working of gifts but the working of the Cross that is the true and real measure of a Christian’s growth and stature!

Today in the Church as Christ’s body, for the edification of young churches and the winning of souls, spiritual gifts may take on special significance for a short season, but they are never in themselves a mark of maturity and they are certainly never something of which to boast. Especially in preaching, only the foolish are proud of the words God gives, for has He not shown that He will speak, if need be, through an ass!
